 Mrs. Patricia Brown

Before becoming a SBHS’s Principal,  she was a peer counseling coordinator and guidance director at Deerfield Beach Middle School. She has two master’s degrees one in counseling and the other in psychological counseling from Columbia University in New York, New York.

Mr. Tim Winburn

My name is Timothy Winburn and I am the Assistant Principal designated to The South Broward High School Marine Maritime Magnet Program. Our program is truly one of a kind. As a member of the magnet program, students will have the opportunity to take part in South Florida’s largest business industry. The Maritime Industry of South Florida produces over $9 Billion dollars annually. The magnet program offers students opportunities to specialize in Marine Biology, Maritime Technology, Outboard Engine Repair, Global Logistics, Geographical Informational Systems (GIS), and Computer Coding. Mrs. Debra Hixon

My name is Debra Hixon and I am the Marine Magnet Coordinator. I am an alumni of South Broward High School and proud to be working here. I am a graduate of Florida State University; with a degree in Biology and Education. I am a National Board Certified Teacher.   I enjoy being part of the Marine Magnet Program because I am passionate about the ocean and the role humans play in its conservation. I want to be sure my students become informed participants in the management of the ocean; be it as informed voters or as part of a career path. The Maritime Industry is an integral part of South Florida and our goal is to expose our students to all the opportunities available to them in our community!!

Mr. Leonel Jimenez

I was born in Chicago, Illinois and attended and graduated from the University of Central Florida. I majored in Biology with a main focus in Marine Biology. I worked at Seacamp for three years teaching marine biology and have been working at South Broward for the past ten years. Not only am I a teacher here at SBHS, but I am also the boys volleyball coach. Some fun facts about me are: I love the outdoors-camping, scuba diving, fishing, the beach, and playing competitive volleyball.

Mr. Kevin Hagerty

I have been a resident of South Florida for more than 20 years.  I attended the University of Toledo and earned a BBA and Law degree.  I am a retired business professional and decided to become a teacher as a second career. I am certified in math, techology, earth science, environmental and marine science.  I teach Maritime Technology.   As a math, science and technology teacher, my goal is to deliver a curriculum that incorporates math, science and technology in real world marine industry applications.  Students learn about a variety of maritime related skills and careers.  I am also the sponsor of our ROV team.  In my free time I enjoy scuba diving!!


Mr. Joe Kelly

I’m a retired US Army Airborne Ranger and decided to become a teacher as a second career. I hold a Bachelor of Computer Science from Troy State University, a Masters of Business Administration from Columbus State University and a Masters of Engineering Management from Missouri University of Science and Technology. I’m a USCG Licensed Captain and enjoy sailing with my family. I am also, a Microsoft Certified Professional and students are able to earn their Microsoft Office Specialist Certification in my class (MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Excel). I enjoy teaching in the Marine Magnet Program because I love the ocean and sailing. I hope I make a life long impact with my students and their love for getting on the water.
